Curbs, Walkways & Ramps

A curb ramp or other sloped area is required wherever an accessible route crosses a curb. Curb ramps should not extend into traffic lanes. Ground, walk, and floor surfaces along accessible routes are to be stable, firm, and slip-resistant under all weather conditions. All ground and floor surfaces must be free of abrupt changes in surface level. Ramps and door entrances must have adequate maneuvering clearances for a person using a wheelchair. Gratings located on walking surfaces must not have openings that are greater than ½ inch in one direction and must be placed so that the long dimension is perpendicular to the direction of travel.
