Typical Accommodations
Typical accommodations for students with learning disabilites may include:
- Seat location
- Note taker, tape recorder, and/or laptop computer
- Copies of classmate's and/or instructor's notes or overheads
- Extended test time (Time and a half)
- Alternate location for a test
- Memory aids such as a calculator, thesaurus, spell checker, formula cards, and/or scribe during tests
- Directions and deadlines given both orally and in writing
- Visual aids when possible
- Provisions of written lecture outlines or notes on the board
- Use of a word processor to take a test
- Frequent breaks allowed during tests
- Test given by page or by section
- Clear arrangement of test items on paper
- Use of blank card or paper to assist in reading
- Extended time to complete assignments
- Taped texts and classroom materials
- Use of handouts and visual aids
- Extended time for in class assignments to correct spelling, punctuation, and/or grammar
- Word processor with spell check and/or voice output to provide auditory feedback
- Concise oral instructions
- Syllabus provided before the start of the semester
