Speech Recognition
Speech recognition applications allow a person to operate a computer by speaking to it.  In combination with a word processor, the user dictates to the system through a microphone.  Speech recognition technology requires that the user have moderately good reading comprehension to correct the program's text output.  If the system correctly recognizes a word, the user can choose the correct word from a list of similar sounding words displayed on the screen.

Co:Writer 4000 adds word prediction, grammar and vocabulary support capabilities to any word processor or email program.  As a student types a word, Co:Writer 4000 predicts words consistent with both the actual letters and also with the sounds of the letters.  Co:Writer 4000 technology helps students make appropriate word choices and write higher-quality sentences with correct subject-verb agreement, proper spellings, capitalization, appropriate pronoun and article use, customary word usage, correct word forms and word endings, popular phrases and proper noun usage.  Informational website:  http://www.donjohnston.com

Write: OutLoud

SoothSayer Word Prediction

Draft: Builder
Draft: Builder is a writing organization program that leads students through the three key steps in creating a first draft: organizing ideas, taking notes and writing the draft.  It models the logical, progressive steps of draft writing and displays a visual representation of the process.  The display gives students a framework to generate, manipulate and connect ideas and information.  Informational website: http://www.donjohnston.com

Inspiration
Inspiration is a writing organization program with an integrated diagramming and outlining environment.  Relational diagrams are used to connect ideas with the ability to add to them at any time.  Inspiration is helpful for students who have trouble with written organization, relationships and patterns.  Informational website:  http://www.inspiration.com
