Typical Accommodations

Typical accommodations for students with speech impairments may include: 

  • Increased writing, decreased speaking tasks
  • Use of a voice output computer or other speech generated technology
  • Provision of individual sessions to allow the students to clarify information presented in lecture, since the students may be reluctant to speak in class
  • Modifications of assignments such as one-to-one presentation or use of a computer with voice synthesizer
  • Alternative assignment for oral class report
  • Course substitutions
