Distance Education Accessibility Training 2006

The purpose of this training was to provide hands-on instruction on meeting Section 508 guidelines as defined in the Americans with Disabilities Act. Each college was encouraged to send two Distance Education instructors to learn how to modify web-base course content and assistive technologies available to online students. The training was held at Surry Community College in Dobson, North Carolina. Participants attended one of the sessions listed below. Each session began at 9:00 am and ended at 3:00 pm. NOTE: Lunch was on your own.

Session 1:  Monday, March 20
Session 2:  Tuesday, March 21
Session 3:  Wednesday, April 5
Session 4:  Thursday, April 6
Session 5:  Friday, April 7

The NC Community College System participated in a grant to provide information and training concerning accessibility issues, compliance guidelines and policies. The results of this initiative were implemented statewide for use by all community colleges. Assistive technologies were identified and training was conducted to assist colleges in meeting these guidelines.

This project was a collaborative effort among Catawba Valley Community College, Blue Ridge Community College, and Surry Community College in partnership with the North Carolina Community College System.

Funded by Carl D. Perkins Vocational & Technical Education Act of 1998
